Sparing The Rod And Spoiling The Child
Here’s another classic example of what happens when a parent doesn”t take firm action against their child. Let”s face it, we’re in an age when the average American child is spoiled – from amusement parks and video games to high priced toys, movies and then constant giving in to their whims for Burger King and McDonalds.
If we refer to the Webster Dictionary, we would find that the definition of spoiled is as follows: To do harm to the character, nature, or attitude of by oversolicitude, over indulgence, or excessive praise.
So how can there be any wonder to why kids are reduced to hitting their parents when suddenly the parents want to deprive their kids of enjoyment because their kids refuse to abide by their rules? How can parents fall into the trap of believing that because of their child’s refusal to listen to them or any adult for that matter, they must have ADHD or ADD? Whatever behavioral abnormalities a child adopts, it is only due to the parent’s negligence. Giving your child everything he or she wants because it’s something you were deprived of as a kid is not the right choice. Also, take into account that a child’s personality and actions are stemmed through observational learning – imitating the model’s (usually the parent) behavior and reacting to the way the model is treated and mimicking the model’s behavior. So parents wake up and take the blinders off and examine your influences upon your child, and think about why your child is acting in an undesirable way!
